Repay Your Salary – HC To Satrucharla

The Hyderabad High Court on Monday delivered a sensational judgement in the caste case involving former Minister Satrucharla Vijaya Ramarao. He has been instructed to repay the entire emoluments he had received during his tenure as an MLA from 1999 to 2004.

Going into details, Satrucharla had in 1999 contested from Nagooru constituency in Vizianagaram district and won the elections. He had filed the nomination as a ST community candidate and won the elections. Later in 2001, a TDP leader filed a petition in the High Court alleging that Satrucharla violated the constitution and cheated by the people of Andhra Pradesh by faking his community. In the petition, he was allegedly accused to be belonging to General category but not ST community.

The long pending case has also knocked the doors of the Supreme Court. Finally, on October 17, today, the Hyderabad High Court concluded that Satrucharla indeed faked his caste and thus gave the first of its kind judgement by instructing him to repay the salary he accumulated during his tenure.

It may be noted that in the last general elections, Satrucharla contested as a General category candidate.
