India’s ‘Super Cop’ KPS Gill passed away in New Delhi. He died of sudden cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment in a hospital. The 1958 batch IPS official was instrumental in rooting out militancy in Punjab during 1980s and 90s.
Kanwar Pal Singh Gill, who was popularly known as KPS Kill, launched Operation Thunder and flushed out militants from the famous Amritsar Temple in 1988 -90. Gill served as DGP to Punjab for two terms before his retirement from the service in 1995.
He was also appointed as State Advisor (Security) to Gujarat by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi to deal the post Godhra riots. Gill also helped many states in containing extremists menace in the naxal hit states in the states till recently.
